Prime Suspect 1973 stars Stefanie Martini as the young WPC Jane Tennison and charts the rise of the novice policewoman as she assists in her first murder investigation, revealing how she became complex and formidable character in the original series, where she was played by Helen Mirren.
Working alongside her superior, DI Bradfield (Sam Reid), Tennison is thrown in at the deep end on her first case, experiencing London’s violent criminal ganglands first hand and witnessing the devastating effects that such crimes have.

Still focused on the murder of of Julie Ann, tonight's Prime Suspect 1973 sees Jane's investigation take another turn.
In this evening's episode, Jane plays the radio recordings to Bradfield who, sensing a chance to get his revenge on Clifford, diverts the team to carry out surveillance of the Bentleys, despite orders from his superior officer to stay focused on the murder case.
Reluctantly taking a day off to attend her sister Pam’s wedding, Jane calls into the station to check in with Kath, learning that her tip-off has led to a huge surveillance operation.
Determined to be part of it Jane rushes off, still in her bridesmaid dress.
Meanwhile, one of Clifford’s team betrays him, and Bradfield soon uncovers the exact details of the Bentleys’ bank heist.
Ignoring the disapproval of his colleagues, as well as Jane, Bradfield is determined to catch them in the act.
