Anne Robinson to step down from The Weakest Link after 11 years at the helm!

Anne Robinson will be leaving The Weakest Link when her current contract expires, it has been confirmed. The TV presenter best known for her steely exterior on the BBC quiz show has fronted it since it first started 11 years ago however today, it was confirmed that the quiz will finish next spring as Anne steps down to focus on other projects.

Speaking to The Guardian, Anne told the paper that she made the decision herself as she plans to focus on other projects such as writing her second book, a publication set to be based on her own personal diaries. Anne said: ''I'll miss it. It's been superb. So it is a hard decision. If there's anything about longevity in television , it's about knowing what to take and what to turn down, and what to stop. It's often about what not to do anymore. And I just simply haven't got time to do the book.''

The Weakest Link started in 2000, when it finishes next spring, it will have aired a massive 1,693 episodes and get this, it will have hosted over 15,000 contestants! The success of the UK version lead to many international versions including a short-lived American version on NBC, an Irish version on TV3 and an Australian version hosted by everyone's favourite barrister, no not Judge Judy, Morag Bellingham from Home And Away, better known as the wonderful Cornelia Frances!

Continuing on, Anne denied that the decision for her to step down was due to a pay cut stating: '' My fee wasn't cut. I originally said I would do [the programme] for 10 years. I did a year more than I intended to. I think 11 years is more than enough but I've thoroughly enjoyed it.'' Anne is still fronting BBC consumer programme Watchdog. Are you sad to see the end of The Weakest Link? Has it run its course or is their still steam left in the format?
