X Factor host Dermot O’Leary still isn’t a fan of the “brutal” six chair challenge.

The presenter of the ITV series has been calling for X Factor boss Simon Cowell to axe it, but to no avail.

“I’m not a big fan of it, it’s so brutal,” Dermot told heat magazine this week. “Simon likes the fact I don’t like it - he thinks it’s great.

“I don’t dislike it enough not to do the show, though.”

Dermot went on: “And in its defence, the format has got a lot cleaner over the years. When we first did it, people didn’t really understand what was going on.”

Dermot will be back hosting The X Factor again this year having signed a new multiyear deal for the show.

He joked: “If I make an arse of myself on the show, I’m sure there’s a clause where they can get rid of me.

“But it’s nice to do know I’m doing it for a while. It’s a great base for me that period of the year, and then I can do other stuff the rest of the time. I won’t be resting on my laurels.”

Meanwhile, discussing The X Factor’s ratings, Dermot said that The X Factor was “comfortable in its own skin”.

“I watch so little telly live now, and that’s just the way the world is,” he said.

While Dermot is confirmed as host of The X Factor 2017, no judges have been announced just yet but rumour has it that we can expect no changes from last year.

X Factor boss Simon Cowell previously confirmed he hoped that Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger would all be back again for this year's fourteenth series.

The X Factor 2017 will air on ITV later this year.
