Channel 4 has revealed today it has axed its popular long running '100 Greatest...' countdown series, which have covered everything from toys to top sporting moments. The special one-off shows, which have aired on the channel for years now, were described as "spurious" by the broadcaster's new creative officer.
Jay Hunt, who moved to the channel last year from the BBC, is said to think the channel should be focusing its efforts on more "bolder" programming, including comedy. "It is felt that they [list shows] are popular but we can be doing bolder and different things rather than something which is fun but which some people feel can feel a little spurious," a source told the Guardian.
The last show following the format to air will be 'The 50 Worst Weddings', planned to coincide with the Royal Wedding on April 29.
However fear not Alex Zane fans, for the Radio DJ's E4 show Rude Tube, a rundown of hilarious viral clips, will stay on the channel for another year at least.
