Vanessa Feltz's new afternoon chat show, un-inspiredly called The Vanessa Show, is said to be facing the axe after ratings fall on the newly re-launched Channel. Just 100,000 viewers are tuning into the programme on weekday afternoons according to The Mirror, down 50% on the previous show hosted by Trisha Goddard.
The show has already been moved around the schedules in a bid to improve ratings but as yet the show has failed to attract any mentionable loyal audience. A source told the newspaper: "The management had hoped Vanessa would be a familiar face who would instantly attract fans.
“In fact, viewers have started switching off. This is a real embarrassment for the channel and a real kick for Vanessa.”
Matthew Wright's The Wright Stuff on the other hand, which airs weekdays from 9:15am, has enjoyed ratings so good that Channel 5 have now extended the show to run for nearly two hours every morning, competing with ITV's This Morning hosted by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
Last night a spokesperson for Channel 5 insisted: “There are absolutely no plans to bring The Vanessa Show to an early conclusion.”
