Hope Street returns for series five and its 50th episode

Hope Street characters

BBC’s Hope Street is back filming in Donaghadee, County Down, as the popular crime drama returns for its fifth series.

The upcoming run will see the show celebrate a major milestone with its 50th episode.

Set in the fictional town of Port Devine, the eight-part series continues its mix of community drama and weekly police cases, with familiar faces returning and two brand new characters joining the mix.

New to the cast is Cameron Cuffe (Krypton) as Constable Donal Gallagher, a former rugby player whose career was cut short by injury. Now turning over a new leaf with the Port Devine police, Donal brings charm, confidence, and a bit of emotional baggage to the station.

Also joining is Jenn Murray (The Lovers) as Doctor Sasha Cookson, who takes over her late father’s GP surgery. Direct and sharp-tongued, she quickly makes an impression — including on Donal. Sparks fly between the two, but with both carrying baggage, it might not be smooth sailing.

The returning cast includes Kerri Quinn as Sergeant Marlene Pettigrew, Tara Lynne O’Neill as café owner Eve Dunlop, Aaron McCusker as Inspector Clint Devine-Dunwoody, and Niamh McGrady as lawyer Nicole Devine-Dunwoody.

Also back are Marcus Onilude as Luke Jackson, Finnian Garbutt as Ryan Power, Katie Shortt as Brandi McClure, Eleanor Methven as Lois Dunlop, Paddy Jenkins as Seamie McCarthy, RhéAna Kamalu as Chloe Jackson, and Jonny Grogan as Ross Dunlop.

Filming for the new series began in June 2025, with production once again based in and around Donaghadee

Previous series are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer, and internationally on BritBox.
