Tommy Duckworth is set to pay Coronation Street newcomer Kirsty £20 to pretend to be interested in his unlucky-in-love mate Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall). The Weatherfield lad, played by Chris Fountain offers policewoman Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede) £20 if she pretends to be interested in Tyrone but to his shock, she begins to develop feelings for the mechanic.
Newcomer Kirsty will begin to fall for kindly Tyrone after Tommy pays her to try and get Tyrone back in the dating game after his marriage to Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) ended sourly after she revealed that she had been having an affair with Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), Tyrone's work colleague and good friend just before she died of injuries sustained in the tram crash in December.
We previously reported that Natalie Gumede had been cast as Tyrone's new love interest Kirsty who is set to fall for Tyrone later in the summer but today the Daily Star reports that Kirsty first agrees to chat Tyrone up after Tommy offers her money. However as they begin to chat, Kirsty falls for nice guy Tyrone's kindly nature.
However, after he finds out about Tommy's scheming Tyrone isn't angry but is delighted at his mate's plan saying: ''It's all turned out great, so you really are a good friend." Show boss Phil Collinson previously spoke of Tyrone's new love interest on ITV1 chatshow This Morning saying at the time: "A big storyline across the summer and into the autumn is Tyrone meeting somebody who's hopefully going to help him move on from Molly and everything that happened''
He added at the time: ''A brand new character is going to come in - she's called Kirsty. I have to say, it's not all going to be a smooth ride for Tyrone - he's got a lot of baggage and he's got a lot that he's got to get over. It's a big story for him over the summer." Kirsty will arrive on the Cobbles later this summer leading into the autumn.
