Natalie Gumede set to play love interest for Tyrone Dobbs on ITV1 soap 'Coronation Street'

Natalie Gumede has been confirmed as the actress set to play new love interest for Tyrone Dobbs, Kirsty. The 27-year-old actress best known for her role as China on BBC Three comedy series Ideal will play copper Kirsty who Tyrone takes a liking to.

As revealed by show boss Phil Collinson last month, Tyrone who was widowed in December after his wife Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) died in the tram crash will begin to put Molly's death and the revelation that baby Jack was actually the son of his ex-best friend Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) whom she had an affair with behind him when he meets Kirsty.

As well as her regular role in the BBC Three comedy starring Johnny Vegas Natalie has also appeared in Emmerdale and Doctors. Speaking of her casting, Gumede said excitedly: ''As a Northern lass who's grown up watching Corrie, I already feel at home on those famous cobbles.''

''From the moment I read the script I knew I was going to love playing Kirsty and I can't wait to see how the story unfolds. This is a dream role for me and I'm looking forward to creating a huge storm in Weatherfield." The soap's official website have teased that the new romance will ''be far from an easy ride'' as the Weatherfield mechanic tries to put the drama with Kevin behind him.

Phil Collinson has promised that the relationship will be ''a big storyline across summer and moving into early autumn.''
