ITV have announced that Coronation Street is to move back to its Wednesday slot in late 2012. The soap is set to air on Wednesdays at 7:30pm due to the struggling ratings of the Thursday 8:30pm episode."Reflecting the move of ITV1's live football matches from Wednesday to Tuesday nights next year, Coronation Street will move from Thursday at 8.30pm to Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm from autumn 2012'' a spokesperson for ITV said.
ITV's director of television, Peter Finch also confirmed that Emmerdale will stay in its current 8pm slot on Thursday night which has proved extremely popular with viewers where it will become a launching pad for brand new half-hour sitcoms.
Speaking at ITV Producers' Forum, Finch said that he had ''lost his nerve a bit'' in implementing new pre-watershed comedy programmes labelling the genre as ''underrepresented'' and ''something we want to do more of.''
