Cathy Murphy announces departure from her role as Julie Perkins on BBC1 soap ''Eastenders''

Cathy Murphy has announced her departure from her role as mischievous Julie Perkins on BBC1 soap Eastenders after nearly a year playing the role of Billy Mitchell's (Perry Fenwick's) partner who he grew up in care with. The actress recently finished filming her scenes as Julie and viewers will see the character leave our screens in the coming weeks.

The announcement comes just a week after  it was revealed that Billy and Julie's granddaughter Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) is set to come and live with them in a few weeks time after they discover that she is living in care. As Lola begins to settle into life in Walford, things look set to be going well for the teenager but after she gets herself into trouble, her grandmother takes the rap for the incident leading to Julie's departure from Albert Square leaving both Billy and Lola heartbroken, reports The Daily Star.

Cathy was cast as Julie in August of last year and Julie made her first appearance in October quickly becoming a firm favourite with viewers for her dry wit and friendship with Billy Mitchell which then lead to them getting together but not before Julie revealed that they had an adult son who Julie had been forced to give up for adoption after  giving birth whilst in care as a teenager.
