Neil Mc Dermott to leave his role as Ryan Malloy on BBC soap ''Eastenders'' later this year

Eastenders actor Neil Mc Dermott has quit his role as Ryan Malloy after two years on the BBC1 soap. The soap star will film his final scenes later this year and according to Daily Star Sunday, Ryan will leave in a ''dramatic'' exit storyline.

Speaking to the newspaper, a spokesperson for the soap said: ''We can confirm Neil is leaving EastEnders. It was a mutual decision that was made before Christmas when Neil's contract came up for renewal and we wish him all the best for the future. His exit storyline will be dramatic and fans will not be disappointed."

Details of the exit storyline are being kept under wraps but it is thought that it may tie in with the upcoming scenes which see Ryan face off against the evil pimp who exploited his sister Whitney Dean (Shona Mc Garty), Rob Grayson (Jody Latham).

Earlier this month, we reported that the show had been filming scenes in Southend which see Whitney come face to face with Rob again before her protective older brother begins to fight with Rob at the end of a pier with whispers suggesting that the lives of both men could be left in jeopardy following the showdown.

The source teased: ''The scenes are going to be explosive. The fight ends with a dramatic cliffhanger where viewers will be left wondering if either of them survives.'' Ryan first appeared as a mysterious man following Whitney in early 2009 as Whitney discovered that he was her half-brother.

Apart from his scenes with Whitney, Ryan has also got his own storylines with his biggest seeing a love triangle between himself, Janine Butcher (now Malloy), played by Charlie Brooks and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) in which he married toxic Janine before having an affair with Stacey. He also fathered her  child Lily. The plot climaxed on Christmas Day 2010 when Stacey left the Square.
