Hollyoaks is set to bid farewell to three male cast members later this year as three characters prepare to leave the C4 soap. Alex Carter, Dean Aspen and Ashley Margolis are all set to leave the soap in the coming months, it has been confirmed by show bosses.
Carter who reprised his role as Lee Hunter and Aspen and Margolis who play Duncan Button and Ricky Campbell respecitvely will all leave the village later this year with the latter two who have been seen as a double act by producers are rumoured to leave together.
28-year-old Alex who had previously played Lee in the early noughties and has been a soapstar for the best part of a decade is ready to move on in his acting career after parts in Hollyoaks and Emmerdale. Speaking to Digital Spy, Carter said: ''After ten years in soap, it feels like the right time to see what else is there.''
''I'm so grateful to Hollyoaks for giving me my first break and I'll be gutted to leave behind some really good friends that I've made in the cast and crew, but I'm sure I'll keep in touch with the ones I like!'' he laughed.
Meanwhile, speaking of his exit, Aspen who plays Duncan said: ''I have had an absolutely brilliant time playing Duncan - I feel like Hollyoaks have paid me to laugh. But, after two years, I really feel that the time is right for a new challenge. I will be very sad to leave but hopefully the door will be left open and you just don't know what'll happen in the future. I'd love to think Duncan could return.''
His co-star Ashley added: ''I'm not sure if I'm crazy or brave but yes, I think it's time for me as an actor to move on. I could happily stay on forever in my comfort zone - Hollyoaks is a great place to work. But with Dean moving on it just feels like the right time. Ricky has been a great character and I've learnt a lot in two and a half years. Landing a role in Hollyoaks at 15 was a dream in itself but I've always wanted a broad acting career so it's now or never.''
All three characters are expected to leave in the summer however it is yet to be confirmed how they will leave. Recently, it was rumoured that the show was set to have yet another large cast cull but the rumours are reportedly untrue.
