New doctor to shake things up on Australian soap Neighbours, it has been confirmed

Neighbours have announced the new doctor who is going to be causing a stir on the Australian soap in the months to come. Rhys Lawson, played by Ben Barber will turn up later this year as a new medic at Erinsborough Hospital and it won't be long before he's ruffling a few feathers. The character is part of what is expected to be a new generation of characters set to replace recently departed residents like Rebecca Robinson (Jane Hall) and Zeke Kinski (Matthew Wekmeister)

The 27-year-old actor has already filmed his first scenes as Rhys and is reported that the new arrival will shake things up as some people don't take too kindly to his arrival. Barber started working on the set of the Australian soap which airs over here on C5 last week as Rhys shared scenes with characters such as Susan and Karl Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne and Alan Fletcher)

Speaking about his new role, Barber quipped: ''I love the character, he is very determined and very focused. I'm really looking forward to what's ahead for me.'' Ben trained in the National Institute of Dramatic Arts and is set to appear on Australian screens in July meaning we can expect to see him on UK screens in late summer. Characters who were recently given regular roles on the show include Chris Pappas (James Mason), Jade Mitchell (Gemma Pranita) and Kyle Canning (Chris Milligan)

Just last week, we reported on the return of Malcolm Kennedy (Benjamin McNair) who is set to come back to live with parents Karl and Susan later this year. McNair has been given a four-month contract.
