Rula Lenska will leave her role as hairdresser Claudia Colby in Coronation Street at the end of her current storyline, it has been reported. The character who first appeared last year as a friend of Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) will reportedly leave in summer.
Claudia's current storyline sees her coming to terms with her boyfriend Marc Selby's (Andrew Hall's) cross-dressing secret. Viewers watched last week as Claudia, who had believed that Marc was having an affair, found out that he was in fact a cross-dresser.
The Sun reports that Lenska has decided to leave her role behind after more than a year as Claudia who is still in shock after Marc unveiled his alter-ego Marcia. Her departure will allow Marc and Audrey to begin a relationship with reports stating that they share their first kiss in July.
An insider teased: ''We're really going to have some fun with this. Audrey will fully embrace Marc's cross-dressing, and even help him pick out some outfits. '' It is understood that Rula has left the show so she can begin touring in Calendar Girls from August but has asked for bosses to leave the door open for her character to return.
A spokeswoman for Corrie said: ''We've loved having Rula. She's been absolutely brilliant as Claudia and we hope one day she'll return.'' Previous reports stated that Claudia was being lined up as the new barmaid in The Rovers Return but executive producer Phil Collinson was quick to quash any rumours.
