Sapphire Elia has confirmed that she's set to exit Emmerdale later this year. The actress who plays Mia Macey has confirmed reports that she will be leaving later this year to pursue new projects but denied that her character was axed.
Elia who previously starred in ITV1 flop Britannia High denied rumours printed in The Sun yesterday that series producer for the soap, Stuart Blackburn had axed her from the show and insisted that the decision to leave was completely her own.
Tweeting last night in response to questions from fans about the report, Elia wrote: ''Hey everyone, yes it it true but not as been written. The explosion of this summer's storyline will result in my character's departure but with the doors open for her return.''
She continued: ''I'll be on your screens right upto roughly October so keep your eyes peeled for more Mia! As for me, in four months time, it's onwards and upwards. I'll keep you posted on what's to come.''
The current storyline sees Mia's mother Ella Macey (Corrinne Wicks) having an affair with her young boyfriend Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) behind the back of both her and her father Declan Macey (Jason Merrels). Also exiting the show is Ella's grandfather Dermot Macey (Frank Kelly) who confirmed his departure from the show last month.
