Comedian Vic Reeves is rumoured to be lined up for the Coronation Street 2017 cast.

The funnyman, who has always been a big fan of the show, has reportedly signed up for a 20-episode story arc this year.

It's after Vic previously begged show bosses for a role as the long-lost son of fan favourite Norris Cole.

The Sun reports that Vic will start filming his role shortly, although exactly who is character is and what they're involved in has yet to be revealed.

"Vic’s over the moon. It’s his favourite show and it’s always been his dream to act in it one day," a source explained.

They added to the newspaper: “He’s made up and can’t wait to get stuck in.

“He always said he would prefer not to do a cameo role playing himself so to get an actual part is just amazing. It’s just what he wanted.”

Vic previously spoke of his love of the ITV soap, saying: “I have watched Corrie since I was little and have never ever missed an episode.

"For me it’s the greatest TV. I’d love to be on Corrie, it would make my life complete.”

The latest casting follows news at the weekend that Alison King could be heading back to Coronation Street as Carla Connor.

Alison played Carla on the ITV soap for almost a decade before leaving in 2016 to 'pursue other projects'.

But The Sun newspaper says that executive producer Kate Oates has "begged" Alison to return to reprise her role.

A source told the tabloid: “Carla is a hugely popular character with viewers, and Kate always felt it was a shame Ali left. So when the opportunity to talk to her came up, she was delighted.

“For a few months now they have been in secret talks and the word among the cast is that Ali has agreed.”

A spokesperson for Coronation Street and Alison declined to comment on the reports.

Corrie continues weeknights on ITV.
