EastEnders topped the viewing figures in last night's UK TV ratings with 5.6 million viewers.

The latest episode was down 400,000 on last Thursday's show, which had seen one character killed off.

But the BBC soap beat both of Emmerdale's episodes which had 5.5 million and 5.4 million viewers on ITV.

Elsewhere on BBC One, Masterchef continued with 4.4 million viewers while new nature doc Galapagos had 3.1 million, down 600,000 on last week's opener.

On ITV and away from the soaps, Harry Hill's Alien Fun Capsule continued to limp along with 2 million viewers before Prime Suspect continued with 3.9 million - up 200,000 on last week.

As for The Nightly Show, Bradley Walsh's week in charge continued with the best numbers since launch night.

In fact, the 1.5 million viewers who watched last night gave the show its best Thursday figure to date.

Away from the two main channels, BBC Two's most watched programme was The Last Kingdom with 1.3 million viewers while Three Wives, One Husband topped the night on Channel 4 with over a million viewers.

On Channel 5, Rich House, Poor House put in a solid 1.8 million viewers.

Over on E4, a new instalment of the Big Bang Theory (at least for UK audiences) brought in big audience of 1.2 million viewers to the channel. On ITV2, Celebrity Juice had 600,000 viewers.
