Suzanne Shaw's departure from Emmerdale announced after just over a year in the role

Suzanne Shaw is to her leave her role as minxy Eve Jenson on ITV's Emmerdale after just over a year on the show, it has been confirmed.  The singer and actress played the granddaughter of show stalwart Edna Birch (Shirley Stelfox), a role previously played by an other actress in 2001.

Suzanne joined the cast of the Yorkshire-based-soap in January 2010 before making her debut a few months later, in April.  Suzanne who won Dancing On Ice in 2008 is believed to have made the decision due to family commitments.

Speaking on a statement posted on the show's official website yesterday evening, Shaw said: ''Playing Eve has been a wonderful experience for me. I have had the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented people and to learn from them.''

Continuing on, she added: ''After much soul searching, we decided that as a family we wanted to be based in one place at this point in our lives. My family must come first and I have therefore decided to leave the show in the summer. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing the role of Eve and have been lucky to have had some incredible storylines and I'll terribly miss the cast and crew.''

As Eve, Suzanne has been part of some massive storylines with Eve's luck with the lads paying off in late 2010 when she embarked on an affair with engaged business man Carl King (Tom Lister), a storyline which concluded on Chistmas day as Carl's fiancée Chastity Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) jilted him at the altar after revealing that she knew about his infidelity for quite some time.

Responding to the announcement, series producer for Emmerdale, Stuart Blackburn said: ''Suzanne has been a valued and respected member of the cast and was at the forefront of one of our biggest storylines last year. She has a real presence on screen and will be greatly missed. However, we fully understand her decision and wish her all the best for the future.''
