Eastenders character Christian Clarke (John Partridge) will propose to his partner Syed Masood (Marc Elliot) in a surprising new plot twist, it has been confirmed. The openly gay resident will tearfully get down on one knee in an emotional scene set to air on our screens next month.
Whether or not Syed will accept the marriage proposal remains to be seen but with rumours that the duo will get hitched in a massive new plot during summer, sources point towards a happy solution to the unexpected new storyline.
In a further unexpected twist, suggestion is that the story will then lead on to the surrogacy plot being revisited if the couple decide to get hitched and start a family. Viewers saw Syed and Christian decide not to have a baby using a surrogate mother earlier this year but should the wedding go ahead, family may be the next thing on their minds.
Speaking about the future of the popular couple who sparked an appreciation thread on Digital Spy Forums called ''Waiting for Chryed to Get it On'', an insider for the BBC soap said: ''If everything goes ahead, Christian and Syed will be the biggest stars of the soap, providing some happy news after the baby swap storyline which went down so badly with viewers.''
In January, speaking about the couple, John promised that Syed and Christian would remain ''strong and united'', adding that they are the ''perfect combination'' and further commenting: ''I am very excited about the things that are coming up - I wish I could tell you more! If it happens the way I've been lead to believe, it'll blow everyone's socks off.''
