Lisa Maxwell reportedly a contender for role as new landlady in Coronation Street

Former The Bill actress Lisa Maxwell is apparently in the running for a role in Coronation Street as the new landlady set to take over The Rovers from currrent landlady Liz Mc Donald (Beverly Callard).

The actress who played Samantha Nixon in the long-running police drama series for seven years before quitting in 2009 has reportedly met with show bosses after they expressed interest in hiring the actress. However as TellyMix previously reported, she faces competition from former Eastenders star Michelle Collins.

The actress who played Cindy Beale on Corrie's rival soap is good friends with executive producer Phil Collinson who reportedly met the blonde actress in January to offer her the role. Both actresses could definitely add much to the show but the decision as to who gets it will be very well thought-out.

Whilst bosses at the ITV soap have yet to make a decision, a source told Sunday Mirror: ''They are looking for a feisty blonde with plenty of attitude and Lisa and Michelle fit the bill.''  Bosses are reportedly planning to introduce the new landlady alongside her children after Liz leaves Weatherfield.

Who should get the role? Would you like Michelle to step onto the cobbles in her stilettos or do you think Lisa could be an erm... arrresting addition to Weatherfield?
