C4 soap Hollyoaks is to have a public jury made of fans of the show to decide the fate of character Gilly Roach (Anthony Quinlan). Viewers have seen a storyline unfold this week where Gilly is accused of rape by fellow Hollyoaks resident, Jacqui Mc Queen (Claire Cooper).
TellyMix reported last month that the personal trainer will be arrested in the weeks ahead as Jacqui claims that he raped her however Gilly insists that Jacqui consented to haev sexual intercourse. The act has not been featured on-screen and neither of them are lying but they are looking at it with very different perspectives.
The ambitious decision will see 12 members of the public decide whether Gilly is to be found guilty of rape or to be cleared of the charges. The group will each vote based on evidence presented to them. Anyone who is interested in being a juror can apply via the Hollyoaks website. The selected 15 will then be invited to the Hollyoaks studio in Childwall, Liverpool before 12 will be randomly selected.
The 3 who are not selected as part of the jury will remain on set as stand-ins if any of the jury don't turn up but do not get a chance to vote. The selected jury will then be guided through the process by an independant legal professional before each of the 12 will vote.
The outcome will be decided by the majority vote and one of two pre-filmed endings will then be screened during the concluding week from March 28th to April 1st. Cast will then film scenes of the aftermath which will either see Gilly face life in prison or become a free man.
This is an extremely innovative and exciting twist and involving the audience as part of it is sure to make it even more exciting. Are you as excited as Tellymix? Will you be applying to be a juror?
If you're interested in becoming a juror, apply here tomorrow Thursday the 17th Febuary.
