Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh has stormed off of social networking website Twitter after she faced a backlash from fans following her comments on the National Television Awards last month. Expectant mum Kym had questioned how Waterloo Road had won the gong for Best Drama - something which her followers became annoyed about!

According to The Sun, Marsh had originally tweeted "Not being funny! Waterloo road??? X [sic]" but had to defend herself from angry tweeters. "Why are people getting so personal to me cos I don't like Waterloo road?" she said, "I'm not being personal to them less their in it! Bore Off!! Ha X [sic]"

She continued: "Guys calm yourselves I'm not slagging Waterloo Road, I was simply saying that of the nominees I was surprised it win please calm down. My mates are in it and they ain't offended so... [sic]"

Last night the soap actress quit the website as friend Gerard McCarthy explained: "Guys, just spoke to Lady Marsh... All is fine. She just decided to delete her account due to The NTA fiasco & people being nasty to her.

"She is pregnant & her number one priority is her baby so it's really not worth letting a handful of idiots cause her unnecessary stress."

He added: "I will miss her twitter banter."

Kym, who plays Michelle Connor in the ITV1 soap, is currently on early maternity leave.
