David Essex set to play 'Moon' patriarch in Eastenders

David EssexSinger and actor David Essex has been cast in the role of Alfie Moon's charasmatic uncle Eddie Moon in BBC Soap Eastenders. The crooner was previously cast in the role of Jack Edwards, Honey's father however the role was recast after Essex had to pull out.

Eddie's son Michael, who we saw in 2010 in a brief stint will also be returning.  One of the key storytlines explored will be the fractured relationship between father and son. It is understood that although Eddie is a family man, his problems with Michael are the key to a murky past.

Speaking of the casting, Essex said: ''Being an East-Ender myself, I'm realy excited to be joining the Square. Eddie Moon is a great character and I can't wait to get to grips  with the role and work alongside such a fantastic cast.''

Also excited about the new character is producer Bryan Kirkwood who said: ''David Essex is a brilliant signing for Eastenders.  He is a unique talent with a legion of fans, and he will bring warmth and charisma for the role of Eddie Moon.  His arrival, alongside the return of son Michael to the Square, will bring a new generation of the Moon family to Walford.''

No details are known yet as to when we can expect Eddie to debut on-screen but casting for other members of the Moon clan are still taking place so expect more news to come.
