ITV has completed its Coronation Street 50th Anniversary line up today by announcing the air dates of a repeat of the first ever episode, a special called ‘The Big 50′ hosted by Paul O’Grady and the much anticipated live episode. The hour-long special which will go out as its filmed will air on Thursday December 9 at 8PM.
Earlier in the week and at 8PM on Monday December 6 the channel will air a repeat of the first ever episode of the soap, as it was broadcast back in 1960.
Finishing the week off at 9PM on Friday December 7 is 'The Big 50'. Hosted by comedian Paul O'Grady, the show promises to be the ultimate Coronation Street quiz - although of course - with a difference. During the show three teams made up of Corrie cast members and one team of celebrity super-fans will go head to head. Each team will be challenged to see just how much they know, about the past 50 glorious years of Coronation Street.
Plus some of the Street’s best loved characters will be seen as never before, popping up in the most unexpected places in specially filmed “When Corrie met…” sketches.
Paul said: “If I don't dip into the lives of the folk from Weatherfield on a regular basis I get withdrawal symptoms. As a Vampire needs blood I need a nightly dose of Corrie. It has always been there, Bill Roache and Barbara Knox are as familiar faces as family.
“Personally my favourite character was Elsie Tanner and my favourite moment was getting a mention from Blanche (Maggie Kones) who said she would "Crawl over hot coals for Paul O'Grady" I nearly dropped dead."
