Iconic soap pub The Rover's Return is set to secure new owners after current landlady Stella Price (Michelle Collins) decides to sell up because of the bad memories the pub holds for her.

However the new owners are closer to home than you'd think after previous owner Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) is unveiled as the mystery buyer. And the storyline development will also lead to the return of Steve's mother Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) who is set to land back on the cobbles later this year.

A show insider told the Daily Star: ''The McDonalds have always had a soft spot for the Rovers. Steve would never have got rid of it if it wasn't for his financial problems when he was wed to Becky. So now that he can afford it again, he can't wait to get back in there."

Steve makes the decision without consulting anyone, except for his mum Liz who returns in the Autumn. Stella will be delighted when she receives the asking price telling Gloria and Eva: ''I've got someone who's offered the asking price, it's a mystery buyer.''

"£160,000 is a fair price, it's a lot of money. We're going to have to start packing today, we move out on Friday."
