Sir Bruce Forsyth laid to rest in private funeral attended by friends and family

Sir Bruce Forsyth last been laid to rest in a private funeral, it has been confirmed.


A statement from his manager Ian Wilson, released on behalf of Lady Forsyth and the family, said today: “The funeral of Sir Bruce Forsyth CBE took place yesterday, Monday 4th September.

“It was the express wish of Lady Forsyth and family that this be a private event and they would like to thank the media for respecting this request. There will be no further details or comment.

“A more public celebration of Sir Bruce’s life will be announced in the coming weeks.”

TV legend Sir Brucie, who hosted Strictly Come Dancing for a decade between 2004 an 2014, sadly passed away last month.

At the time, his manager announced that the telly star had died peacefully following ill health having last made a public appearance on Strictly’s Christmas special in 2015.

As celebs and members of the public posted tributes online, Strictly bosses have announced plans to pay tribute in the first episode of the BBC One show since his passing.


The show’s pro dancers are putting together a big performance for this Saturday’s launch show in his memory.

Strictly’s executive producer Louise Rainbow confirmed: “The thoughts of everyone here are still very much with Sir Bruce’s family.

“Of course, we will be paying tribute to Sir Bruce at our launch show and this will include a heartfelt performance from our Strictly professional dancers.

“We all want to celebrate him and all that he loved about the show. Sir Bruce was, and will always be, a huge part of Strictly Come Dancing.”

Sir Bruce had hosted Strictly alongside Tess Daly before retiring, replaced on the main show by Claudia Winkleman.


The ladies will be back on Saturday to introduce the Strictly class of 2017.

Strictly Come Dancing 2017 will launch this Saturday night from 7PM on BBC One.
