The X Factor 2012 judges have once again axed singers at the first stage of bootcamp before givne them a chance to sing.

Last year saw the panel axe hopefuls on the first day of the second stage of the competition, saying that some of the contestants simply weren't good enough.

Now in their second year on the show together, it seems that Tulisa, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh still haven't got the knack of it, and have done the same thing again.

And this time the wannabes were asked to trek up to Liverpool, only to be told to head back home again.

The Sun report that the cull was made on the orders of X Factor boss Simon Cowell.

"It was carnage," a source told the newspaper. "They were told there would be an important announcement. They went out on stage to face Tulisa, Louis, Gary and Nicole — and then the bombshell. There were looks of shock on people’s faces. Even the judges looked upset.”

Those that faced the axe shouldn't be too upset however, some of the acts that were cut in last year's bootcamp still went on to do well.

Sophie Griffin, who wasn't considered good enough, made it through to the live shows of rival series [cat]The Voice UK[/tag] earlier this year.

A spokesman for [cat]The X Factor[/cat] commented: “Some of the contestants who got a Yes at their first auditions, when seen side by side against the others, were not of a good enough standard.”
