The X Factor 2012 auditions may be forced to feature guest judges, it has been claimed today.
The Sun reports that bosses had hoped to sign Dannii Minogue in place of Kelly Rowland, but the deal fell through.
With auditions now less than a week away, show producers have been left scrambling for ideas.
Other potential judges have been rumoured to include Katy Perry and Mel B, but now it seems they may only appear as guest stars for the auditions.
It would be the second time that Katy has appeared on the show, having previously guest judged on the series in 2010, in place of a pregnant Dannii Minogue.
Mel B meanwhile joined the panel of The X Factor Australia last year, so has plenty of experience with the show.
So far only Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh and Dermot O'Leary have confirmed that they will be returning, while Tulisa has said she'll also be back in interviews.
Auditions begin filming in Liverpool on May 23, leaving just days to sign up a new judge.
Xtra Factor presenters Olly Murs and Caroline Flack will also be returning, although Olly will not take part in the auditions due to his US tour with One Direction.
