Simon Cowell reportedly wanted to fire Gary Barlow from The X Factor this year, but was overruled by ITV bosses.
It was confirmed yesterday that Gary would be back on The X Factor this summer, following months of negotiations.
According to the Daily Mirror, X Factor boss Simon felt that the Take That star was "stiff" and "scripted", but ITV bosses decided to keep Gary on for a second series.
“Everyone’s wondering what on earth [Simon's] got against Gary Barlow," a supposed source told the newspaper. "The fact is that he’s probably jealous of him. Gary is popular and wholesome – everything Cowell is turning out not to be.
“Last year was the first time Simon wasn’t on the panel himself and his ego very much wanted the British public to miss him. They didn’t."
The insider added: “They took to Gary as head judge with open arms and welcomed him to the show. After week one it was a case of ‘Simon who’?
Gary has apparently signed a £2 million for a second series of the show, a £500,000 increase on last year's fee.
