ITV bosses are reportedly annoyed with the revelations about Simon Cowell’s life that have made the front pages of the papers this week.
Claims made in an new biography about the music mogul include him sleeping with X Factor's Dannii Minogue, wanting an affair with Cheryl Cole, hoping to sack Gary Barlow and bullying X Factor contestants.
They appear in a supposedly unauthorised book about the Syco chief, written by former BBC hack Tom Bower.
Although Simon has distanced himself from the work, it's understood that he did give some access to its author when writing, including access all areas passes on The X Factor USA.
“This whole week has been like an ongoing car crash. There is a great deal of consternation here," an apparent ITV insider told the Daily Mirror today. "These are really rather lurid stories that don’t reflect well on Simon.
"And they certainly don’t help when we are producing family shows like BGT and X Factor. Quite the opposite.
“We can’t quite fathom why he would co-operate with such a book. It’s baffling. I’m sure he will explain to us in the fullness of time.”
Last night Simon insisted on Twitter: “This book is not written by me. It is unauthorised. The writer is Tom Bower.”
