Simon Cowell is set to return to The X Factor 2012 judging panel later this year... or at least his image will, with plans for Simon to give his opinions on the singers via Skype.
Simon previously confirmed that he wouldn't be able to appear on the new series this autumn, due to his commitments on the US show which airs at the same time.
Instead, according to The Sun at least, bosses want Simon to appear as 'the Voice of God' and give his views on the acts via Skype.
It's all in a bid to get back at The Voice, which has seen steady ratings climbs for the past three weeks are looks set to challenge The X Factor as the UK's biggest singing competition.
“This is serious now for Simon," a source tells the newspaper this morning. "BGT losing out to The Voice is one thing, but he’s terrified this is going to have negative repercussions for The X Factor.
“All options are being considered and having him as the Voice of God is one of them. He quite likes the idea.”
The source added to the tabloid: “X Factor is Simon’s baby and he’ll do whatever he can to make it a success. He won’t let something like the Atlantic get in the way of things.”
An X Factor spokeswoman said: “Simon is closely involved with the show and its direction. Ideas for the new series are still being discussed.”
Yesterday we revealed the X Factor 2012 live judges auditions dates, which kick off in Wales on May 15.
