In an interview with Closer magazine, The Wanted singer Jay suggested that the two Brit boy groups weren't rivals, because they appealed to different types of people.
"The wanted and One Direction are in two different areas," Jay said. One Direction are smashing the teen magazines an doing the Jusitn Bieber kind of thing."
He went on: " 'm glad they're doing so well because I've met them and think they're really nice.
"But we swear in interviews and don't have their cute little faces, so a lot of teenager magazines tend to avoid us.
"Our music gets played in the clubs and on the radio, so we have very different audiences."
The two groups are currently going head to head in the US charts, with The Wanted track Glad You Came hitting the Top 5 last month.
Meanwhile One Direction made history by becoming the first group ever to debut at number one on top of the US album charts.
