X Factor boss Simon Cowell has denied ever offering Sir Tom Jones a judging role on one of his shows.
The Voice UK coach claimed earlier this month that he had turned down offers for Simon's reality series "several times".
He said: “I’ve never wanted to do one until I saw The Voice in America. I immediately thought, ‘this is different’. It’s a different feel."
And 71-year-old Sir Tom also hit out at Simon for even being a judge on the first place, complaining: "Simon Cowell is a record man, not a singer. I have problems with people who have never got up on a stage to sing, judging those who do.
"It’s like critics who criticise actors, never having been up on a stage in their lives. Who are they to say?”
However speaking at yesterday's Britain's Got Talent press launch, Simon denied making any offers, and revealed he's only ever met Sir Tom once.
Simon explained: "The one thing I read about today, to clear the record up, was that it was insinuated that I'd offered Tom Jones a role on one of my shows.
"I met the guy once in Vegas, I think the offer he was thinking about was Opportunity Knocks," Simon joked. "Wasn't one of my shows!
"He might have got the dates confused."
The Voice UK starts on Saturday night on BBC one at 7PM. Britain's Got Talent follows at 8PM on ITV1.
