Despite having appeared on both the live shows and at judges' houses in the past, Will claims he has never actually watched an episode.
He told the Radio Times: “I like performing on it and I like when the real talent emerges.
“But I don’t like it when they use acts purely for comedy value when they don’t deserve the exposure."
And that, Will says, is the difference with his new BBC One show The Voice.
He added: “We don’t do that.”
Will.i.am appeared on The X Factor twice in 2010, initially helping out Cheryl Cole at judges' houses and then performing alongside Cher Lloyd in the final.
The US star has also appeared with his group The Black Eyed Peas, performing Dirty Bit and Meet Me Halfway.
