X Factor runner up Marcus Collins has said that he's glad he didn't win last year's competition, after losing to Little Mix in the final vote.
The Liverpudlian singer narrowly missed out on the title, with just a few percent separating him from the girl group.
Not at all down-hearted however, the 23-year-old singer insisted he was even happier having finished in second place
Marcus told Entertainmentwise how he didn't think record labels would have given him much freedom to write his own tracks if he had won the show.
He explained to the website: “I was given the opportunity to go away and lock myself in the studio and write and do everything that I needed to do.”
“I don’t know if I had been given that opportunity had I have won. It might have been too higher risk.”
The 'Seven Nation Army' signer added: “Everything happens for a reason and I’m glad that it happened that way. The show needed change and it needed a girl band to win.”
Marcus releases his self-titled debut album next month.
