The girls, who had originally planned to release their first record in just a month's time, said they feared rushing the process would see them flopping.
The group's lead singer Perrie Edwards told the Daily Star: “We’ve been getting involved in the writing so it’s taking a while to finish the album.
"We want to release it as soon as possible but not until we’re 100 per cent happy.”
The girls have been recording tracks for the record almost since the very moment they won the show back in December, but Perrie insisted they wanted to make sure fans would buy the songs.
“We don’t want to rush it and end up flopping,” she added to the tabloid.
In the meantime, Little Mix will be headlining this year’s X Factor 2012 live tour, which starts in Manchester on February 25.
