Simon Cowell is reportedly targeting Cheryl Cole to replace Kelly Rowland on The X Factor as he sets his sights on revamping the UK version of the show.
Last week, brutal 'house cleaning' of the American series resulted in presenter Steve Jones and judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger sensationally getting the boot, leaving only Cowell and LA Reid on the panel.
According to The Mirror, the media mogul plans to continue the bloodbath in Blighty by axing Rowland, and the Girls Aloud star - who was also axed from the US version - is said to be his 'number one target' to fill her seat.
A source 'close to Simon' told the newspaper: "Cheryl is part of The X Factor family. Formal discussions have yet to take place but if she wants to come back she would be welcomed with open arms."
ITV apparently backs the idea, with an insider quoted as saying: "We’d welcome her with open arms. She was hugely popular and she’s totally gorgeous. We’d love to have her back."
However, it appears unlikely that Cheryl would accept such an offer. Her manager Will.i.am recently said she'd 'never return' to The X Factor, while the Geordie herself is rumoured to have laughed off suggestions of a comeback.
