X Factor boss Simon Cowell is reportedly planning on bringing in Robbie Williams to join Gary Barlow on The X Factor next year. According to Reveal magazine, Simon wants to play on the Take That stars' rivalry in a bid to boost ratings.
Insiders have claimed that the music mogul also hopes that the move will encourage Gary to stay on the series, after hinting that he was going to quit after only one year on the panel.
Gary previously admitted: "I'm taking some time off next year to remind myself who my children are. Next year doesn't even feel like it's approaching."
Big changes are set for the new series after this year's show lost over 4 million viewers in just 12 months, with the new look panel being blamed for the decline in ratings.
"Simon has even discussed the possibility of getting Robbie Williams as a judge, playing on old tensions between Robbie and Gary to move forward in terms of the male judges," an insider claimed.
The source added: "These are the desperate measures to try and save the show."
Applications for The X Factor 2012 are currently open, with auditions starting in the Spring.
