This weekend saw the quarter finals of the competition as the remaining 7 acts performed for both judges and viewers.

For the Quarter Final tonight, the safe seats of recent weeks had gone meaning all acts faced the public vote.

Glee star Kevin McHale and footballer turned actor Vinnie Jones found themselves in the bottom two and having to perform again for judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh.

But after the sing-off, Vinnie announced he intended to step down.

He encouraged the judges to save Kevin, saying the Glee actor could win the show, and added of his own time on the series: “It’s been everything I needed since my wife passed.”

But Simon insisted that Vinnie stay in the competition and went on to vote out Kevin. Nicole and Louis both saved their own acts by sending home Kevin and Vinnie respectively.

It left many watching very confused and angry – with some vowing to stop tuning in.

One reacted on Twitter: “what even is this show?!?! #XFactorCelebrity”

“Ridiculous… will not be watching this again!!” wrote another with a third adding: “And with that I will NEVER watch another episode! ??”

A fourth posted: “You can tell Vinnie was ready to leave, he looked so sad to be saved!! Simon should have respected his decision ? poor Kevin could have actually won #XFactorCelebrity”

And former X Factor finalist Grace Davies tweeted: “that might be the worst decision i’ve ever seen in my life #XFactorCelebrity”

Meanwhile, others started to campaign for Kevin to get a wild card vote.

“Only way I’m watching again is if Kevin is voted back in as wildcard! (Which he totally should be!)” posted one to social media.

As for Kevin himself, he shared a short video online just after the result saying: “I had a great time, I made some great friends.”
