James, who won the 2012 series, says he won’t be a part of this year’s special line up of contestants

However he has put himself to be a judge on the upcoming series.

He said this weekend: “I’d love to get involved but I wouldn’t want to be a contestant.

“I’m still signed to a record label so I don’t think it would be right for me to take part in that way, but I’d definitely be up for helping out in some way.”

In an interview with the Daily Mirror at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, James said he’d “love” to be a judge.

“If they want a really honest judge then I’d be more than happy to do it,” said James, who recently dropped new single Falling Like The Stars.

A potential X Factor All Stars series was first announced by Simon Cowell back in February.

Simon said at the time “I’ve had a meeting with ITV, I’ve told them what I think we’d like to do with X Factor because we’ve been waiting to have this opportunity.”

As yet no exact details have been confirmed but there have been rumours about who will – and who won’t – be on the line up.

According to The Sun newspaper, Simon is keen to get a number of winners back including both Leona Lewis and Shayne Ward.

Meanwhile, Wagner and Honey G have both put themselves forward to come back, with Honey G saying: “Give the people what they want and what the people want is Honey G.”

Also apparently in talks are 2009 X Factor stars Jedward, made up of twins John and Edward.

Alongside the contestants, no judges have yet been confirmed.

Last year’s judges Ayda and Robbie Williams previously announced they would not be part of the show while Louis Tomlinson is also expected not to return.

The X Factor typically airs from September on ITV but scheduling for this year has not been announced.

Alongside the All Star series, a Celebrity special is also understood to be in the works.
