Will One Direction ever reunite? There could be bad news for fans…

A potential One Direction reunion may be off the cards.

Five boys – Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik – were put together by the judges on The X Factor back in 2010.

They didn’t actually win the show but as One Direction went on to become arguably X Factor’s biggest success story with global recognition.

However they went on a break in 2016 and as yet there are no plans for that hiatus to end.

Now Harry Styles’ pal Nick Grimshaw has suggested a comeback may never happen.

The Radio 1 DJ said goodbye to his breakfast show this week and reminisced: “When we started this show [One Direction] were all together as a five piece.”

“Do you think they’ll ever get back together?” he asked before declaring: “No, not a chance. It’s not happening is it?”

Fans listening weren’t impressed with the news.

“So @grimmers just said on his last breakfast show that one direction getting back together was ‘never going to happen’. Thank you for literally ruining my life,” one wrote on Twitter.

Another posted: “Grimmy just said he didn’t think 1D would get back together again. Thanks for putting that out there pal.”

Although nothing has been confirmed just yet, the One Direction boys themselves have said they will get back together one day.

Liam Payne said earlier this year: “I think it will happen at some point in the future. We’ve all spoken bout it. The dream for this most fantastic show that could be is amazing!”

Currently all five original members of the group are working on solo music.

Last year saw Simon Cowell say he was hopeful of another One Direction tour and album.

Simon told The Sun newspaper: “You know, it’s fun being out there on your own but what I hope is going to happen is that they remember now how much fun it was being in a group.

“I always believe that you don’t make rules, you break the rules. So there’s nothing to stop them, if they want to, getting together for a tour, for an album.

“I made it absolutely clear, obviously, ‘We’re in’.”

Meanwhile, One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson has been announced as a new X Factor judge.

Louis said: “The X Factor for me made a lot of sense. Development of artists is something I’ve been interested in for a long time. Having been on the show myself I know first-hand that the live shows are like nothing else you would experience. I’m looking forward to guiding auditonees through the process.”

He’ll join Simon on this year’s panel alongside husband and wife team Robbie Williams and Ayda Williams.

The new series will start later this month on ITV.
