The X Factor may not be back on our screens for more than six months but we're already excited for the new series.

There's been plenty of speculation, rumours and gossip about the new run and that's all before filming begins.

But what do we know for sure and what's still up in the air?

What we know...

Dermot O'Leary is back!

Hurrah! Dermot will be back in charge of hosting the main show and it's no real surprise: There is no one else we can even imagine that would be able to do as good a job!

The arena auditions return

The arena auditions are back once again! ITV have confirmed this year the first round will head out of the rooms, saying: "It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for the acts who come to audition, so why not pair up the biggest performance of their lives an incredible Arena atmosphere in front of thousands of people… and the Judges of course."

Audition dates!

You can audition now for this year's series online, in person and even via WhatsApp. You need to be at least 14 years old and applications currently close on July 1, 2018. You can apply HERE!

And what we don't...

Who will be the judges?

Head judge Simon Cowell is returning, and he is expected to confirm that Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne will again be in board, but there will be space for at least one new judge after it was reported Nicole Scherzinger would not be back.

Cheryl was widely expected to return for her third stint on the show, but it's since been reported she'll instead be joining BBC show The Greatest Dancer.

Mel B and Rita Ora are current favourites to join but so far no one has been officially confirmed for The X Factor 2018 panel.

Will it actually be any good?

The killer question and one we probably won't know the full answer to until Christmas time.

Ratings for the last series were the lowest yet after a number of changes.

Can improvements to the format and a newly refreshed judging line up turn things around? Time will tell...
