Chatting on ITV’s This Morning, Dermot spoke about the current series which returns this Saturday and Sunday night with bootcamp.

Dermot told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Scofield: “It’s always weird when you do promo around X Factor because we’re still filming.

“We’ve just done two judges’ houses, and this week we go away and so two more.”

Dermot wouldn’t reveal which categories the judges have but teased: “At the end of bootcamp you’ll know, for the six chair.”

The telly favourite went on: “This his year they’re encouraged to do their own songs which is a bit of a gamble for them but I think that’s really helped.”

Dermot then said he felt “relaxed” hosting the series for what is now his tenth year.

“Overall it just feels like we’re very comfortable in our own skin, we know how to make the show, we enjoy making the show… it just feels very relaxed this show,” he said.

Dermot, who was replaced by Caroline Flack and Olly Murs in the 2015 series, continued: “I think coming back I definitely felt refreshed going back.

“I just love it, you never know what’s around the corner. I never know who’s coming around the corner, that’s what I love.”

The X Factor 2017’s bootcamp double bill airs starting this Saturday between 8PM and 9:30PM.

The show continues with a bumper episode on Sunday night from the earlier time of 7:30PM, finishing at 9PM.

Contestants will first sing in groups before the judges decide on the spot who will progress onto the second stage of Bootcamp, the arena auditions.

There the acts will each take to the stage one at a time to sing not only for the judges but – for the first time this year – a live audience at Wembley Arena.
