The talented singer was mentored by Simon on last year’s series and finished fourth in the competition, leaving at the semi-final stage.

A year on from her appearance, Emily has been reflecting on her time on the show and working with Simon.

And she had only nice things to say about working with the music mogul, explaining: “He genuinely cared for everybody and he has a big heart, there’s a lot of things that people don’t see.

“He was just incredible to work with, he really is a good guy.”

In an interview with Belfast Live, Emily went on: “It was amazing to work with him, he’s honestly such a lovely person, just really really genuine and down to earth, I think a lot of people don’t really expect that of him.

“People maybe expect him to be something different but he was honestly just a normal person, living his life, maybe a little bit better than the rest of us but he was a really nice guy.”

Following The X Factor, Emily is touring the UK and has been in the studio working on a debut single Lost and Found which is out now.

Emily said: “It’s actually really, really different from what I did on the X Factor. I feel like although the show was amazing, I feel like I couldn’t really get to show off my true self in a way.

“I felt like a lot of my personality was missing in my performances, I’m a really bubbly person so I think that might have been missing in the performance side of things so I think they single is really showcasing me, it’s really fun, it’s poppy, it’s young and fresh so I’m so excited for people to hear it.”
