The X Factor 2017 is set to see some major changes when it hits TV screens this autumn.

The hit talent show is now in its fourteenth year and nothing is set to be the same again.

Simon explained: "When you’ve done it for 14 years you can’t keep making the same show every year. I think you have to realise what the contestants are in it for, why do so many people enter?

"I think if you just make the same show each year it becomes boring and predictable.

"So you try and make changes for the better, not everything works but some ideas we’ve got for the live shows are going to be good."

According to rumours, this year we'll see just six weeks of live shows - but the contestants will perform and face elimination on both the Saturday and Sunday night each weekend.

"I just think it’s the way things are in all these shows at the moment. The early and middle rounds rate well. So, the idea is to do more of the middle shows and less of the live shows.

"We’ll see if it works or not. I think there might be a middle ground."

Both nights will also see guest artists perform in a bid to attract back viewers following one of the least watched series in 2016.

Nicole Scherzinger praised the move: "I love all the changes he’s [Simon] making. You have to in this day and age, things are moving so fast over social media, you have to be changing with the times. You have to evolve. We’re evolving as a show, we want to give the people what they want."

Other changes will include acts facing a live arena audition in the bootcamp stage, following their room audition and before the six chair challenge.

Furthermore, original songs are being actively encouraged while ITV2 spin-off Xtra Factor has been dropped in favour of more online content.

One of the few things that remains the same is the judging panel: Simon will be joined by Nicole, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh on the panel once again this year.

The X Factor returns to ITV on Saturday 2nd September and Sunday 3rd September at 8pm.
