Ed Sheeran could spoil Harry Style's chances of a Number 1 single.
One Direction star Harry released his debut solo single Sign of The Times on Friday and it quickly shot up to the top of iTunes charts across the UK.
As of Monday, the record had sold 30,000 copies, the Official Charts Company reported, putting it at Number one well ahead of Ed Sheeran's Galway Girl which was behind.
However now Ed is making a comeback, this time with his current number one single Shape Of You.
Shape Of You has been at Number 1 for the past 13 weeks and Harry is fighting desperately to be the one to knock Ed off the top spot.
Unfortunately for the X Factor alumni, his lead over Ed has been cut to just 8,000 copies (combined downloads and streaming equivalent sales) up to last night, according to the Official Charts Company. Harry has so far shifted 47,000 copies of his single compared to Shape Of You's 39,000.
While Harry continues to outsell Ed by more than 3 copies to 1 on the likes of iTunes, streaming on Spotify may give Shape Of You the edge in the final battle.
If Harry can hold on to the top spot to Friday he'll be the second One Direction member to score Number 1 with a solo single: Zayn Malik was the first in January 2016 with Pillowtalk.
Niall Horan's debut solo effort This Town managed Number 9 last year while Louis Tomlinson's Just Hold On with Steve Aoki peaked at Number 2.
This week's final Official Chart will be revealed at 6PM on Friday evening.
