Gary Barlow has dismissed any rivalry between Let It Shine and The X Factor.
Tonight sees Gary launch his own talent show on BBC One, amid claims that X Factor boss Simon Cowell isn't impressed.
But former X Factor judge Gary insisted today: “This show is no threat to any of his shows. It’s not on in a time period when any of his shows are on."
Saying there was no 'war' between him and Simon, the Take That legend continued “I’ve always been a big fan of The X Factor and a big fan of Simon as a TV personality, and of the person I’ve met throughout the years
“I’m not very close to him, I never have been, but this show is of no threat to any of his businesses."
Gary went on to point out that Let It Shine was on the hunt for musical performers and not chart toppers.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “My winners will not, I don’t think, be having any recording contracts and will be doing theatre shows.
“As far as I know there is nothing within Simon’s company that has anything to do with theatre. It is of no threat whatsoever, other than me being on TV, that is the only link.”
While Gary did praise The X Factor he also got a bit of a dig in when it came to the contestants on the show.
"I always felt like when I was on X Factor I was seeing the same people over and over," he revealed. “I feel like advertising for a job in a musical has definitely brought a whole new class of talent to us."
Gary added: “One of the big things for me was being able to say the prize for the show is something real and tangible. It is a job, a real gig. That means a lot to be able to say that.
"Initially this is a nationwide tour so they will be going to all the regions with this show for 12 months. Then of course the dream is to go into the West End and then who knows?"
Let It Shine begins tonight at 7PM on BBC One.
