Let It Shine judge Martin Kemp has taken a swipe at The X Factor ahead of the BBC One talent show's premiere.

Fronted by Gary Barlow, Let It Shine will follow the hunt for singers to perform in a new stage musical based on the songs of Gary's band Take That.

Alongside Gary and Martin, former X Factor judge Dannii Minogue will take up a role on the judging panel.

Speaking about the show on ITV's Lorraine, Martin got a cheeky dig in at The X Factor over the prize for the winner.

“The prize at the end of it is incredible, because whoever wins it, is guaranteed to be in a play for three or six months," he said. “It’s a lot more than these shows, where you bring out a record and if it does well, great, if it doesn’t, then goodbye.

“That’s how it seems these days.”

Discussing his role as a judge on the series, the Spandau Ballet star added: “I’ve been in the business for over 40 years, and I’ve been on both sides of the audition process so I know what these boys are going through.

“I was just 10 when I was on TV for first time, so I’ve got all this knowledge from all these different things; acting, singing.”

Alongside Gary, Martin and Dannii, the BBC have also teased an array of judges and guest stars including Amber Riley, LuLu and Olly Murs.

Graham Norton and Mel Giedroyc will be presenting Let it Shine, which is expected to air on Saturday nights from January.
