X Factor winner Matt Terry in battle with Louis Tomlinson for Number 1

Matt Terry has started his race to Number 1 after winning The X Factor yesterday.

It was Matt who won The X Factor last night, beating Saara Aalto to the title in a tense result.

This year the X Factor's winner's single is original track called 'When Christmas Comes Around', written by Ed Sheeran and Welsh songwriter Amy Wadge.

The pair previously teamed up on Ed's huge Number 1 hit Thinking Out Loud and give X Factor only its second original winner's song in 13 series.

Unusually, only winner Matt performed the song in last night's final after he was crowned the champion once lines had closed.

The song has since been released for download and to stream but for the first time in X Factor history there is no physical release.

In less than 24 hours, the song has shot up to Number 2 on iTunes but faces fellow X Factor star Louis Tomlinson in the battle for Number 1.

Ex One Direction star Louis unveiled his debut solo single Just Hold On During The X Factor live final on Saturday night.

It remains to be seen which, if either, will be able to grab the Number 1 spot come this Friday night.

But Matt has emerged as the new favourite to land this year's Christmas Number One single - which will be decided NEXT week - according to Ladbrokes.

Following his X Factor victory punters have backed his first solo single to reach the famous top spot, which leaves Matt as the red-hot favourite with odds of 13/8.

Louis Tomlinson and Steve Aoki find themselves chalked up a 6/1 to stay put until the big day.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "Punters reckon when Christmas comes around Matt will take home the bragging rights as this year's festive No.1."

The X Factor airs on ITV.
