After 6.4 million votes, the winner of The X Factor 2016 final is Matt Terry

Earlier in the evening, the live final kicked off off with a special performance as Kylie Minogue teamed up with Matt terry and Saara Aalto on a cover of Everybody's Free (To Feel Good).

Matt and Saara then each performed their first solo song of the evening, reprising their favourite track of the series.

Saara was first up with Oh So Quiet by Bjork before Matt took to the stage with his Sam Smith cover of Writing's On The Wall.

A second guest performance from Madness followed before some of the more 'wacky' auditionees returned to perform a cover of Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now.

Saara and Matt then returned with their 'songs to win': Matt was first with One Day I'll Fly Away by Randy Crawford while Saara performed I Didn't Know My Own Strength by Whitney Houston.

Unusually, neither performed this year's winner's song which is an original track written by Ed Sheeran and Welsh songwriter Amy Wadge called Christmas Comes Around.

After Saara and Matt's performances, Little Mix took to the stage with a mega performance featuring their songs Oops and Touch, featuring Charlie Puth, as votes were verified.
